My Goals

In my last post I talked about my lack of follow through and listed out 5 steps from ehow.com on how to follow through...Step 1 is Write Down Your Goals so here the start to my list of 30 Goals to accomplish while I am 30!

1). Complete CPSM Certification
Up to this point the only thing I have done is order the materials! I really need to sign up for the classes and complete the certification. Not only will this certification help me in my current job, it will also help me throughout my career...any hey-my company is paying for it!!

2). Learn to Meditate
I really feel like I need balance in my life and for some reason, mediation just keeps calling to me. I have downloaded a book to my Kindle about meditation but have not yet made the time to read it!

3). Read "The Secret"
I have heard from a number of people how great this book is...including Oprah so I would really like to take the time to read it!

4). Be on Time
I am not one of those people that is ALWAYS late, but I do have a tendency to "push it". By always "pushing it" I tend to stress myself out...especially if I am driving somewhere.

5). Exercise
I DO NOT want to set an unrealistic goal here...and this is one that I struggle with the most because I have a tendency to phase in and out of exercise...right now, luckily I am in an "IN" phase. I will have to give this goal some more thought as it needs a lot more "meat" around it!

6). Better Eating Habits
Again, I don't want to set any unrealistic goals so I will give this one some more thought!

7). Be Prepared
Not for the end of the world or anything like that, but just on a daily basis...in my job, in life etc!

8). Learn Spanish
I have Rosetta Stone-its just a matter of using it!

9). Take more Pictures and Move them off of my camera!
I have a Kodak Gallery account I just need to start using it!

10). Scrapbook
I want to spend a few hours scrapbooking every month-I don't want to get in too much over my head so I think this is a good starting point!

11). Become Financially Savvy
I put money into my savings account all the time...however I am also taking money out of it all the time! I need to put together a financial plan. Now that I bought my own home, I find myself spending a lot of money to furnish and decorate!

12). Build a relationship with God
I have never been the person who goes to church on a regular basis so I am setting a goal to go at least once a month.

13). Walk my Dog
Anyone who knows me, knows that I LIVE for my dog. The house I bought, I bought for her-so that she would have a yard. While its great that she can go outside and run around-I know that she really enjoys going for walks...when its not too hot.

14). Apologize/Admit when I am wrong
I think there are a lot of people who have trouble admitting when they are wrong, and I am one of them.

15). Get plenty of sleep
I am one of those people who definitely needs their sleep! I just don't understand those people that can function on only a few hours of rest. Lately I have found myself staying up later and later...thank you HBO...I think a good starting goal for me would be to get at least 6 hours of sleep per night...and that does not include the hour I spend hitting the snooze button!

Well-I am halfway through my list, and this is definitely going to be a working document. I am going to give this some more thought over the next couple of months, and come September 11th, the day I turn 30, I should have my finalized list done with a plan in place...hopefully-if I can follow through!

T Minus 52 Days

In 52 days I will turn 30. I always thought that I would dread turning 30, but I am starting to realize that 30 can be a whole new starting point in my life. In order to get my 30's off an running properly I have decided to make a plan. Over the next couple of months I am going to come up with 30 things that I resolve to do in my year of 30. This is not just a "bucket list" of sorts but also ways to better myself holistically. Resolution number one will be to FOLLOW THROUGH ON RESOLUTIONS! Historically I have lacked in the follow through area-I have an entire room of scrapbooking supplies and not one scrapbook to prove it! I tend to get in over my head so I am going to do some research and understand the best ways to follow through...let's just hope I can follow through on this blog! According to an article on eHow.com (http://www.ehow.com/how_4529260_follow-through-goals.html) the best ways to follow through on your goals are:

Step 1
Write Your Goals Down--Even if You Already Know Mentally What They Are there is something about doing this that makes your goals more real and concrete. It also sets your mind up to want to pursue them as if you were fulfilling a contract with yourself.

Step 2
Try to Move Forward in Your Goal Each Day--Even If It's Minor Progress sometimes a goal can seem so overwhelming and huge you don't know where to start. This paralyzes people from taking action. I look at it as if you're hammering on a boulder--enough chips at it, and it's eventually going to be more and more manageable.

Step 3
Take the Time to Look Back on Your Progress - Sometimes when you're in the middle of something it can seem like you're trudging through mud, but when you look back to how much you've accomplished in a year it seems more like a huge leap.

Step 4
Remind Yourself of the Bigger "Whys" Behind What You're Doing -- If your hardest moments when you feel like giving up, you have to have major reasons for what you're doing. Otherwise your goals will fall by the wayside in favor of other things

Step 5
Celebrate Your Successes When things pay off, be happy. Reward yourself and get ready for the next big step.

I look forward to Step 5 the most...I LOVE to celebrate...hmmm maybe the first thing I will follow through on is turning 30! :)
